Why is NISM Certificate Validity getting extended?

Earlier, NISM had decided to cancel / postpone NISM and IBBI certification examinations at all the NISM Test Centers, BSE, NSE / NSEiT, CSE as well as MSEI Test Centers, during the period of 14th March 2020 till 14th April 2020. All the CPE programmes scheduled during this period were also cancelled.

Due to these cancellations, market participants were unable to renew their certificates. While NISM notified that candidates, who had enrolled for certification examinations and CPE programmes during this period, NISM will offer rescheduling facility once the examinations and CPE programmes commence. It also requested participants to not enroll for any exam or CPE till April 14, 2020 due to the lockdown.

“For those candidates, who could not appear or attend or enroll for certification examinations or CPE programmes and as such, could not renew / are not in a position to renew their certificates, during March 15, 2020 to June 29, 2020 (or time period based on future developments / the Government directions), validity of their certificates shall be extended till June 30, 2020”, said NISM in a website notification.

NISM launches eCPE for Mutual Fund Distributors

It is also understood that validity of ARN of Mutual Fund Distributors who could not renew their NISM Certificates will also be extended. ARN is the AMFI Registration Number issued by AMFI to all Mutual Fund Distributors.

Since the validity of ARN is co-terminus with that of NISM Certificates, AMFI has decided to automatically extend the validity of such affected ARNs until June 30, 2020.

UPDATE on June 01, 2021: It may be noted that AMFI has also decided to extend the validity of affected ARN since it is co-terminus with the NISM Certificate validity.
